midterms & meditations

i'm disconnected
living in a surrealistic world
of slow motion
black & white pictures
lingering between
consciousness and unconsciousness
mindshatteringly aware
of my own limitations...

i'm working on my midterm paper, which i suppose is going to be some sort of a comparison between the rights of woman in our "modern times" versus those mary wollstonecraft writes about in "a vindication of the rights of woman"... i'm having trouble getting started, probably because on a day to day basis, these are not things i like to think about... i'm far from being a feminist, far from being someone overly concerned with women's rights... on a day to day basis... i suppose it could be said that in some ways, i choose to be oblivious... it is safe to say that there are definately things that i avoid thinking about... and although occassionally i may read the random article about the oppression of women in india... or the state of women's rights in afghanistan... quite honestly, i don't think too often about women's rights here in the united states... in general, i would like to believe that the majority of women in the u.s. have ample opportunity & means to make something of themselves... that we are not entirely dependent upon men for our happiness & good fortune etc etc... and although i realize there are some who will disagree, i think that in general, women in this country are pretty well off... certainly we have less to complain about than women in other countries do...
